Jumbo Holdsworth and Hooper Loop Trail Races 2023

Run, Half Marathon, Trail Run
Mt Holdsworth DOC campsite Wellington
From $55 to $65 24km + 1470m elevation & 12km + 650m elevation

The Jumbo Holdsworth Trail Race is probably the best known race in the beautiful Tararua ranges that follows one of the more popular multi day hikes.

The 24km course can be run in either direction, and takes runners above the bushline between the Holdsworth and Jumbo peaks, presenting a gnarly challenge to even seasoned trail runners.

The shorter 12k Hooper Loop is the perfect entry level trail race. It’s course is exciting to run and has some elevation, but the downhill is not very technical. While the race does attract some competition, it’s still got the flair of a small local race with a very friendly atmosphere.

While the 12k is easily achievable, the 24k race is not to be underestimated. With it’s steep and technical terrain, it’s a good challenge, and tight cutoff times are enforced.
