Ruapehu Trail Festival
The Ruapehu Trail Festival incorporates three great events over one weekend: Sky Waka Vertical Challenge, Ring of Fire and the Tussock Traverse.
The Tussock Traverse will take place on the 11th of March and offers a 32km, 21km, 12km and 6km trail run /walk. The 6km and 12km course complete one or two loops of the Taranaki Falls track. The half marathon course follows the Waihohonu Track to the Waihohonu Hut then follows the Lower Taranaki Falls Track to the finish. The 32km course starts on Tukino Road, merging with the 73km and 50km Ring of Fire route at the Round The Mountain Track junction. The course then merges the half marathon course near the Waihohonu Hut.
The Ring of Fire Ruapehu is due to take place on the 11th of March 2023. The event offers a 50km and 73km ultra.
The Sky Waka Vertical Challenge is currently on hold but hoping to announce a deferred 2023 date. The event sees individuals, pairs and teams of three attempt to knock off as much mountain elevation as possible within 4 hours. The event takes place at Whakapapa ski area. Climb to the top, gondola down then do it all over again. In addition to the 4 hour challenge, there is also a 400m dash up the Waterfalls Descent Track.
