Challenge Wanaka will take place on the 17th of February 2024. The event features one of the world’s toughest middle distance triathlon courses set against the stunning alpine backdrop of New Zealand’s Southern Alps and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. It is New Zealand’s largest triathlon festival, featuring events for all ages and abilities involving over 2,500 participants and attracting 10,000 spectators.

Part of the Challenge Family global series of triathlons, Challenge Wanaka is the race of a lifetime for athletes wanting to compete and holiday in paradise.

In addition to the Challenge Wanaka Half, a number of other options are available including Cross Triathlon & Duathlon, OSM Multi, Corporate Trophy, AquaBike and the Bay to Bay Swim.

The Challenge Wanaka Half will take place on the 17th of February. The 1.9km swim is a one-lap swim in the sheltered part of Glendhu Bay in Lake Wanaka. The 90km bike course takes riders through Wānaka township, along to Lake Hāwea and back around to the Red Bridge at Luggate. Riders then return past the airport, back into Wānaka and through to Glendhu Bay Station. The 21.1km run course will see athletes running two laps of the beautiful Bike Glendhu course.  

The Super Sprint New World Three Parks 3-9-3 is perfect for giving it a go with a 300m swim, 9km and 3km run. 

The Cross Triathlon involves a 1.5km swim, 32km bike and 10.5km run and the Duathlon is a 32km bike and 10.5km run.

The Challenge Wanaka Aquabike is a 3km swim followed by a 120km bike. 

OSM Challenge Wanaka Multi event features a 25km kayak, 43km mountain bike and a 14km trail run.

The Corporate Challenge encourages workplaces to enter a team and get involved and the Bay to Bay Swim is a 1.75km swim in Glendhu Bay.

Additionally, Challenge Wanaka offers an adaptive event as well as options for juniors, intermediate and secondary school kids.
